Backyard Blogging

072504backyard.jpg

I do like to blog, read blogs, and compute in my backyard even though it is a bit difficult to see the laptop screen if the sun is at the wrong angle. Most afternoons the big elm nicely shades the whole yard making for decent laptop screen viewing.

Even better than my backyard, Mike of Cruftbox has decided to round up some of the diffuse LA bloggers and have a backyard blog event in Pasadena on Sat. Aug. 21st.

One of the reasons that I am taking the road trip to San Francisco tomorrow is that I feel neglected down here in SoCal. SF and NYC frequently have fun blogging events and my OC meetup gets cancelled every month for a lack of interest.

On Sat. 8/21, I will drive to Pasadena with my laptop, some sangria, a bit of food, and I will socialize with other bloggers. Yeah for Mike thinking this up!

(Meg - want to go?)

Tidbits

  • Looks like the House Republicans have given GW Bush the Big F* You. Wow! Their first significant rebellion in 7.5 years. Wow. I wish they would have rebelled like this on the war back in 2003.
  • Mark Cuban on "How to Jumpstart the Economy - Tax Free Small Businesses" - This is a reasonable and rational idea. Thank you, Mark.

  • IHT on "We Should Still Like Ike" - 'The supreme commander of Allied forces during World War II, Eisenhower believed the United States should not go to war unless the nation's survival was at stake. "There is no alternative to peace," he said."

Reason Magazine on "Baby Bust" - 'At the heart of any fertility incentive lies an attempt to encourage a particular group of women to orient their bodies in a traditional way. Every pro-fertility policy is an effort to slow cultural transformation, to stabilize a society's ethnic composition, to ossify a current conception of a national culture by freezing the genetic makeup of a nation. From Poland to Singapore, swollen wombs are a bulwark against change.'
