as if Daylight Saving Time wasn't enough

this Wednesday, at two minutes and three seconds after one in the morning, the time and date will be Very Special Indeed. written out in the American style (mm/dd/yy) it will be:

01:02:03 04/05/06

(sounds of ooohing and aaaahing)
yes, kids, this sequence will never happen again -- well, at least not in our living memory.

thus enlightened, you may now return to your normal lives.
i mean, "normal" lives.

thank you for this.

i can still remember my seven year-old fascination when i noticed the date was 7/7/77. I remember pointing it out to my crush, the lovely and remote diane, who sat next to me in ms. bealy's class. she was utterly unimpressed, much to my dismay. i'm not sure but i think that that's why it never worked out between us.

and when 8/8/88 came around i was working in a grass seed mill for the summer. no one around but a couple pigeons. needless to say, they had other things on their minds.

by the time 9/9/99 and 1/1/1 showed up there were other more pressing matters to be concerned with, like why hadn't i invested in something, anything, about four years earlier. or bought a house in southern california before real estate became the District of Insanity, for pete's sake.

all this to say, yes, i am now ready for another Important Date and I am grateful for friends who keep me from forgetting the important things in life.

I am totally going to stay up for this tonight, just in case aliens decide to unveil their malicious scheme at that exact (and very significant) moment. Seriously!

you know, those cool sequences happen more than we sometimes realise, and i'm glad i got to celebrate this one in such fine company! T.T. has pointed out that we must celebrate this sequence again on May 4th later this year to honor Europe & the rest of the world's datekeeping ways. ah, the beauty of cross-cultural relationships.

Argh! If I had only been more observant to notice such a thing. I think there is actually a name for occurances such as 7/7/77 mentioned above. I mean, how lucky is that being born on that day? Forget being a golden dragon -- that rocks.

OOooo, I shall celebrate this next month. Another good thing about living here will be added to the list.
